The Great Pocket Disaster of Aught 9

  • Aug. 17th, 2009 at 6:52 PM

People seem to have a much higher opinion of my sewing skills than I deserve. My family keeps asking me to sew things for them or help them sew other things. Here it is - I'm not that great a seamstress. In fact, I can't even sew a straight line. They only ask because I'm willing to make things up. I'll finagle patterns or make up my own. But, it never works out quite right, so I'm left wondering why they keep asking! You know on aptitude tests or whatever, where there's a box laid flat and you have to tell which symbol would be on the top if the box were folded up. Just because I can fold up the box, doesn't mean I have some sort of magical spatial relations powers that enable me to brilliantly produce a dress or a skirt or a even a doily. I can't! My sister asked me to make her a skirt - just whip that out of my back pocket - and it was a disaster. I forgot how to make pockets. Pockets! That's how much I don't know what I am doing. So, please, take this into account before you ask me for things. I'm just saying.

In the meantime

My life currently consists of "in the meantime".

I'm waiting for my graduation paperwork to go through so I can be endowed with the somewhat dubious honor of a University degree and I'm looking for a job to go with said degree, so that I can find a place to go with said job.

"In the meantime"... I'm kickin' it at my parents' house (don't have to tell anyone how much fun that is), applying for any job that I can possibly do (or that a trained rat could do), and doing a remarkable number of favors to fill the time (babysitting, sewing, free-handing, whatever).

I hate "in the meantime". It's just filler. It's pretend life. "Could you hold this and this and this, while I sort out this over here and then I'll have figured out what I want to be when I grow up?"

I know I should probably make it count, you know, fill it with worthy stuff. But, I'm also sick. So, 'in the meantime', I just don't care.

So, I'm listening to the Comic-Con Panel for Stargate: Universe and, wow, is it appease the fans day or what? I just noticed that they're not really playing to a new audience. Their addressing the outstanding, old-school Stargate fans - you know, the ones who are concerned about the how this new series is going to play out. I just think it's interesting that they feel obligated to hit us up, rather than trying to build a new audience. Shout out to the Sci-Fi and the new SyFy fans.

Heading home on Saturday. Ridiculously sentimental and weepy. Fortunately, too tired to be fully desolate. That'll probably hit me sometime on Monday - post jet lag. I've really loved living in Germany. Freiburg is glorious. It's so beautiful here and, I know it sounds dumb but, so German. There's no other way to describe it.

I'm not sure if I'd call this the best summer of my life, but it's definitely in the top percentile.

I'm at Day 22 in Germany. It's pretty awesome here - it's beautiful. Unfortunately, my internet connection sucks. I can't log on to anything I need from my University. And, I can't rock hulu, when I really just need someone to speak English. I downloaded HotspotShield and it knew!!! Hulu is psychic. Crazy! I'm also exhausted. No real point - just throwin' that out there.

Y'all are out there, somewhere...!

If there is one person or more on your friends list who makes your world a better place just because they exist and who you would not have met (in real life or not) without the internet, then post this same sentence in your journal.

I'm so embarrassingly slow at updating. But, I'm all packed and ready to go. To GERMANY!!!! For 7 weeks, I get to pretend I can speak German and, of course, I remember nothing. Wie sagt man 'I'm a dumb American, please Help me'? What have I done?! Oh well, sink or swim, Baby. Sink or swim. *sighs in resignation*

My professor assigned a paper utilizing emotional vulnerability in our fieldwork. I kind of hate her right now. I'm so raw, I could scream. Or throw up. It could go either way at this point.

I had to take a break, so for a little chillaxation, I found this on youtube. Oh, youtube. *pat, pat*

Oddly, it was my father, recently returned from the Phillipines, who showed me this video. Hmm...

Enjoy! :D

Wizard's First Rule - Review

It's later than promised, but I read the book in a marathon event and it took some time to process it. So, without further ado...

MinorSpoilers )

Warning!! Do not compare the book to the TV series. It will only bring you heartache and despair. And annoyance. The show is amazing - it is a visual masterpiece. But it is not the same. Instead of trying to reconcile the two, try accepting each on its own merit.

Happy Reading! :D

I've started reading the Sword of Truth book series by Terry Goodkind. I'm about half way through Wizard's First Rule (Book One) and should finish by the end of the week. I plan on posting a review, so if anyone's open to discussion, bring it on.

Thus far, totally diggin' it. :D

How To Kill A Tree

  • Dec. 3rd, 2008 at 2:56 PM
dead soon
It was my somewhat dubious honor to copy survey forms at work today. Following the copying, all 400 of the copyings, I had to cut each copy in half with a remarkably ineffective papercutter. I know, right. The fun never stops or at least it kept on going for a good hour.

"Oh, my Gosh," I hear from my bosses' office. "I just got an e-mail telling me to disregard the survey sheets she sent before and use this one."

I just started laughing.

"I'm not doing it," my boss declares. "Or rather, I'm not making you do it. And, I'm not killing another tree."

At least I'm more important than the tree. :D

Here's to you, little guy... Don't worry. No one's gonna hurt you, now.

Pat, pat.
